- The towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM
- Buses and trucks with three or more axles and a GVM of more than 8 tonnes
- Bendy buses are even considered rigid vehicles
To obtain a heavy rigid drivers license, you must follow below actions:
1. Learn To Drive Heavy Rigid Vehicle
Before initiating the learning for HR Courses, one must fulfil the below-mentioned criteria to get an HR driver’s license.
Heavy rigid vehicle licenses permit the person to drive heavy vehicles with 8 tonnes GVM and 3 or more axles. To get a heavy rigid driver’s license, one must not hold a license of provision and must hold a Car license for at least 2 years or more, a Light Rigid heavy vehicle license for at least 1 year, or a Medium rigid heavy vehicle license for at least 1 year.
2. Completion Of Application Form DLA1
After meeting the above eligibility criteria, you will be easily able to upgrade to a Heavy Rigid vehicle license and complete the application form.
3. Submit Identity Proof
Post application submission, you are supposed to provide proof of your identity to proceed further.
4. Provide The Application Form DLA1 Personally
The person who wants to acquire an HR drivers license must provide the duly filled application form DLA1 in person at a driver and vehicle centre along with below-listed documents such as:
- Filled vehicle license application from DLA1
- Mandatory Fees
- Proof of identity
It must be noted that the applications cannot be accepted by post as it has to be submitted personally.
5. Undergo Eyesight Test
This process is very crucial and the applicant is required to undergo eyesight tests to proclaim commercial medical eligibility when applying for a heavy rigid vehicle license. The eyesight test is being performed at the vehicle service centre or RTO. The applicant is supposed to wear visual aids to approve the test.
Apart from the eyesight test, the applicant has to provide a declaration about his permanent, physical, or long-term conditions or any treatment he is undergoing so that it does not have any impact on driving a heavy rigid vehicle.
6. Pass A Heavy Rigid Vehicle Theory Test
The applicants who are not using an RTO or LR driver’s license will be required to take the theory test and this test involves 10 questions in all of which 8 questions need to be answered correctly.
Please note that the applicant who possesses the MR class driver’s license or who has successfully finished training through a legal RTO will not be expected to complete this test.
7. Clear The Practical Driving Assessment For HR Driver License
The applicant is required to complete the practical driving assessment test before the issuance of the license.
