Which Is The Best Concrete To Be Used In Driveways?

Concrete Footpath

Concrete is considered to be the best material for constructing driveways. The concrete footpath is also highly recommended by people because of its sturdiness. The cleaning is simple while it looks amazingly well. Further, concrete nowadays comes in several patterns and styles. Concrete is prepared using natural ingredients.

A concrete driveway is also made by combining various other ingredients. Concrete is very environmentally friendly. Some contractors use recycled concrete for the preparation of new concrete from the same. With the construction activities going on in the world, there will always be massive demand for concrete.

Types of concretes best used for driveways

  1. Normal strength concrete:

It is very much similar to plain concrete with the same ingredients used in the preparation. The main time for setting concrete is 30 to 90 minutes. It all depends on the properties of concrete used in the process. Many concrete footpaths are made using regular concrete. It depends on the weather conditions of the place it is used in. The average strength of the concrete lies between 10 MPA to 40 MPA.

  1. Simple concrete:

The plain concrete doesn't require any reinforcement or combining of other ingredients. Likewise, the mix is of only cement, aggregates, and water at the ratio of 1:2:4. The highest density comes between 2200 to 2500 kg/ cubic meters. But the compressive strength lies anywhere between 200 to 500 kg/square meter. Besides, plain concrete is used in making driveway concrete, footpaths, buildings, etc.

  1. High performing concrete:

This type of concrete is used for displaying a high level of performance. It conforms to specific standards like easy placement, rapid gain, durability, etc. This kind of concrete is very sturdy and expensive at the same time.

  1. Ready-mix concrete:

In the case of ready mix concrete, the concrete is mixed beforehand and brought to the construction site. The mixing takes place in the central mixing plant. The concrete is suitable in ready-to-use condition. Moreover, care should be taken at the time of transporting concrete. It can harden in case of any delays.

  1. Air entrained and limecrete concrete:

The air-entrained is a particular type of concrete where gas or air takes up 6% of the concrete. This concrete is used only in exceptional cases. In comparison, limecrete concrete uses limestone in the making process. Limestone is mixed instead of cement and used in constructing domes, vaults, etc.

  1. Polymer concrete:

The concentrates of polymer are higher than cement in polymer concrete that helps to reduce the voids. Further, there are mainly three types of polymers called impregnated, partially impregnated, and polymer concrete.

  1. Lightweight concrete:

The lightweight concrete has a lower density of 1920kg/cubic meter. It is made from lightweight materials like pumice, perlites, etc. Primarily this kind of concrete is used in making building blocks.

Conclusion

While choosing concrete, check out the style of the homes. Various concretes come with different price tags. Choose the driveway concrete type that matches the construction purpose. Deal with contractors to get unique driveway patterns.
