Various Types Of Timber Flooring That Will Last For A Long Time

It is incorrect to compare the service life of a laminate and, say, parquet: these are completely different materials - both in price and in durability. But there are a number of factors to consider and pay attention to when choosing the type of timber flooring in Sydney.

Laminate

Of all wood-like materials, laminate is the most economical solution. It is a wood-fibre board covered with a decorative film that imitates various textures (including wood). Of course, it is difficult to attribute it to timber flooring: Many buyers consider laminate flooring as an alternative to parquet.

Pros:

  • Inexpensive.

  • Easy to install.

  • Long-lasting. When buying, pay attention to the material class: the higher the number, the more reliable and durable the floor. Laminate classes 32 and 33 are resistant to mechanical stress and a small amount of moisture.

Bevelled laminate is more like a natural board. This material will last longer because the perimeter of each bevelled board is protected by a specially shaped edge. The main problem of a coating without a chamfer is that over time the edges of the board "bulge" and gaps appear.

The shape and texture of the laminate are very diverse, the material is not at all limited to a deck board that imitates parquet. Depending on the overlay (decorative layer), the laminate floor can even resemble the squares of floor tiles.

Advice: It is permissible to use laminated timber flooring not only in living rooms but also in kitchens and technical rooms. However, it is not suitable for areas with high humidity.

Parquet board

Parquet board is the next most popular timber flooring: the optimal material in terms of price/quality ratio. Structurally, it consists of several layers of wooden planks glued perpendicular to each other. Top layer - natural wood veneer covered with varnish, wax or oil.

Pros:

  • Minimally susceptible to deformation due to the glued construction.

  • If the board is covered with several layers of varnish, then it can be used even in the kitchen, instead of tiles or linoleum.

  • Parquet boards are cheaper than massive and much easier to install.

  • If the upper layer is damaged, restoration is possible.

Please note: bevelled parquet board looks more impressive and beautiful than usual and better reproduces the texture of wood. If due to changes in temperature and humidity, gaps form in the floor over time, they will be less noticeable on a chamfered floor.

Cork parquet board

This is a type of parquet board used for flooring in Sydney, is where the top layer is made of decorative wood veneer, but of cork bark. Unusual appearance, excellent soundproofing and heat-saving properties ensure the popularity of the material.

The cork cover can be made in the form of plates that must be glued to the base, and panels with locks - they are laid in a floating way, without glue. It is easier and faster to assemble the panels, but there are more seams left and the cork looks better with a minimum of seams. If the thickness of the material is at least 6 mm, then over time the coating can be sanded and varnished, but the work should only be done by a specialist.
