Matte For Glossy Tiles: Which One To Choose?



The top surface of the tiles is one of the main requirements when choosing a facing material. Both glossy and white matte tiles textures have their own characteristics, as well as advantages and disadvantages, so it is not always possible to firmly answer the question of which one is better, and which one should be discarded. In order to make the best decision, one should consider the pros and cons of both types of ceramics.

Glossy tiles


She is attractive and stylish. Glossy tiles are made for the perfectionists and lovers of bright interior solutions. She can transform even the smallest space and make your interior royally luxurious.


Advantages


Glossy tiles look good both in small rooms and in big and spacious rooms that are non-standard layout:

  • The tiles, polished to a mirror finish, perfectly reflect light and visually enlarge the space.

Calm white matt tiles attract, first of all, with their practicality:

  • The matte texture has an anti-slip effect and therefore is excellent for use in wet rooms (bathroom, hallway and kitchen).

  • Low reflectivity visually hides dust, streaks, marks, splashes and other contaminants, so matte tiles do not take a lot of time in the fight to keep clean. 

  • The white matt tiles finish is pleasant to the touch and does not lose its attractiveness with minor scratches. 


Which tile to choose: matte or glossy?


Taking into account all the listed characteristics, it is necessary to understand that where one option is good, the other will most likely be inappropriate. The basic principles and criteria for buying ceramics are clear and obvious, however, it is better to avoid stereotyped solutions, trying to approach each task as individually as possible. Those who have not yet got to the decision on the choice want they should remember that:


  • Splashes, streaks and smudges are less noticeable on light-coloured glossy tiles (beige, white or grey).

  • White matte tiles and glossy tiles can be combined well in the same space: glossy elements work well for wall cladding and matte ones for flooring.

  • For small rooms with poor lighting, it is safe to use glossy tiles.

  • White matte tiles are great for modern interiors (modern, pop art, hi-tech, art deco, etc.).

  • Matte tiles with a grainy and embossed texture are poorly suited for the decoration of areas subject to severe pollution (entrance hall, work area in the kitchen).
