Cleaning Collectable Figurines The Right Way

Most of us love and treasure collectable figurines as showpieces at home or office glass cases. These figurines are souvenirs from visits to places, memories of incidents, remembrance of our loved ones, and so on. While some of them depict scenes or favourite events frozen in time, others include those having a similar resemblance to people. Some of us even love to place our plush teddy bears as collectables reminiscing childhood memories. They can only last through the years with proper care, maintenance, and protection is taken. Here are some of the tips for cleaning and taking care of collectable figurines the right way.

Minimize Damage And Dust Exposure:

Collectable figurines are delicate and fragile, making them more prone to damage, deterioration, and falls. The fragility and attention given to every detail contribute to the value and speciality of these pieces. These priceless treasures need to be preserved and carefully kept inside glass cabinets or showcases to retain their originality. This prevents the chances of any accidents, slips, and damage. The cabinets provide protection from dust, dirt, grime, minute particles, and other external factors.

Clean At A Solid Surface:

Collectable figurines need to be cleaned and handled at solid surfaces like a table or stone countertop. Sit down comfortably within reach so that you can have complete control over the figurines. Avoid standing up where the chances of slipping and toppling over or losing the balance of the object are higher. There is a high possibility of your priced possession slipping through your grasp.

Get Rid Of The Dust:

Eliminating the dust from the figurine surface can be challenging, especially with the tiniest nooks and corners. Given the figurines' delicate nature, it can be tricky to clean and dust them with a cloth as it is more prone to breakage or damage when doing so. Avoid using hard brushes, scrubbers, and pointed cleaners to clean out the dust. Instead, choose for more gentle and lighter options like soft bristles brushes, hair blowers, and similar tools.

Thorough Cleaning:

Plush teddy bears on display need more than just simple surface dusting. Perform deeper, thorough cleaning that covers all parts. Use brushes to dab clean on them while moving in a direction that covers the inner layers to the surface. When cleaning collectable figurines, use a soft cloth or towel for thorough cleaning. However, have a firm grip on it and use sufficient soft cloth to take on any accidental knocks or falls. You can do the cleaning by dipping a soft lint-free cloth into a bowl of lukewarm water and gently wipe the surface of the figurine. Remember to avoid using any harsh cleaning products or those with bleaching powder or ammonia on them. Once you are done, use a clean cloth to wipe out any excess water and soap residue. Never place the figurine entirely in the bowl of water or directly under free-flowing water, as it would dissolve the paint and fill up any hollow parts and create air bubbles.
