Benefits of Using Concrete Stencil Patterns

Stencilling concrete is used to design or add style to concrete in an inexpensive way. It can be used both outdoor and also indoor. Stencils used in concrete comes in a variety of patterns. Some of the popular patterns are running-bond brick to stone, stale and tile. The cost of concrete stencil starts from $45 and ranges up to $65 per square meter. The cost depends on the dyes, design of stencils or type of stencils and also the densifiers used.

Some of the advantages of using concrete stencil patterns are listed below:
  1. The complete concrete stencil can be completed in one whole day. With concrete stencil patterns, the entire operation can be completed in one day except grading and forming operation.
  2. Multiple colours can be used in concrete stencil patterns.
  3. Less labour force is needed for the entire process.
  4. The cost of the stencil is less when compared to other similar processes like stamping.
  5. It is not slippery when compared to stamping. The stencil is not slippery because it has a flatter plane.
  6. Stencil Pattern can be purchased in rolls and the common size in which it can be purchased is 3 feet wide and 335 feet long. The concrete stencil patterns are made up of paper or plastic.

  • Paper type concrete stencil patterns:

Paper type stencils are made of tear strength paper or thick cardboard and above that, there is a waterproof waxy coating that helps the stencil to prevent damage. The paper stencil comes in rolls, like wrapping paper and an approximate area that can be covered with one roll is 1000 square feet. Paper stencils are less in cost but the paper stencils can be used only once and after each project, they should be scrapped. This type is commonly used when there is a lot of decorative work with the same pattern. Paper stencils can be used for fresh concrete and also it can be used for large area because of the cost factor.

  • Plastic-type concrete stencil Pattern:

Plastic-type stencils are made of vinyl or Mylar and plastic stencil come in sheets, rather than rolls and it is best suited for custom designing projects. It has a tendency to be tougher than paper stencils. Moreover, it can be cut into complex patterns, allowing unlimited designs. Plastic stencils can be reused and can be cleaned and they can be kept safe for the other project. Plastic stencils are less flexible and it is not suggested for new concrete since it is difficult to float in it. Plastic stencil lay flatter and are less prone to distortion. It is used on projects involving sandblastings or the application of thin overlay to create pattern relief. It can be used in various thickness to achieve a varying degree of relief.

Use the stencil only on a clean and smooth surface for a good look. Do not apply multiple layers of colour to achieve the best effects. Also, don’t remove the stencil too soon. These are some of the common tips or points to be followed while purchasing or using stencils.
