All About Sectional Garage Doors

Introduction

Since the beginning of the second half of the 19th century, owing to a car or any other sort of vehicle for the family has become a common practice of the household. Earlier these cars were usually kept outside the house, mainly on the pavements, the nearest streets or a nearby garage which accommodated a number of other transport vehicles. Later, houses had their own built-in garages which resulted in people having much less to worry about the safety of their vehicles being in the open. These early models of garages had metal garage doors which were fairly easy to work with. It usually consisted of a single metal frame which with hinges on the top. These doors were opened and closed with the help of a button or switch on the walls of the garage and in order for the vehicle to get in the garage, the car had to be a little far from the garage since the doors would open by swinging from the top of the garage by the hinges. These kinds of garage doors are also called a single panel garage door and they are one the initial garage doors that were available for use.

What Are Sectional Garage Doors?

Single panel garage doors were very useful but still had their fair share of disadvantages. For instance, in order to open the garage door while coming back to the house, one has to step out of the car and operate the garage manually by pressing a switch. Another such disadvantage is that if a car is accidentally trapped while the garage door is closing, damage may be caused before the door is stopped from closing further. All these problems were can be easily solved by using the new and much improved sectional garage doors. These can be constructed from a lot of various materials but aluminium is one of the most used.

As suggested by their name, these garage doors are made up of a few sections of metals which are connected with each other through hinges. They open and close with the help of door tracks on the sides of the garage roof and gate. When these aluminium sectional garage doors open, instead of a swinging motion they roll up the vertical tracks of the gate and into the horizontal tracks of the roof. They basically cover the whole of the roof when opened.

These doors have several advantages-
  • They take no extra space while opening or closing
  • They can be controlled with the help of a remote and thus, the driver does not need to get out of the car to open the garage door.
  • Most of the new sectional garage doors have built-in sensors which automatically stops closing if they come into contact with the car or any individual. This leads to much safer results.
Conclusion

Thus, sectional garage doors are much easier to work with and in recent times, one can have their garage doors customised to go with the look of the rest of the house, making it a safer and more appealing than any other type of garage door.
